Welcome to Your Boat Hire Safety Guide for the Norfolk Broads

Are you gearing up for a tranquil adventure on the Norfolk Broads? Before you set sail, let's ensure your journey is not just enjoyable, but safe too. Here's some helpful advise to navigate the serene waters with confidence:

Navigating the Bridges: Keep an eye out for low bridges and use a pilot, when asked to by your hirer. Familiarize yourself with bridge heights along your route and plan your journey accordingly.

Preparing for your Boat Hire: Before embarking, acquaint yourself with the boat's layout and safety features. Familiarize yourself with the operation of the vessel and know where safety equipment is stored.

Mooring your Hire Boat: Practice mooring in quite locations first. Ensure you have sufficient fenders and lines, and approach mooring sites slowly, considering wind and current.

Ropes and Knots: Learn a few basic knots like the cleat hitch and figure-eight knot. Properly secure your boat when mooring to prevent drifting.

Man Overboard: Have a plan in place for man overboard situations. Assign roles to your crew and do not reverse your boat back, turn around in a gentle semi-circle

Mooring in Tidal Water: Be mindful of changing water levels in tidal areas. Adjust your mooring lines accordingly to accommodate tidal fluctuations.

Remember, safety is paramount while enjoying the tranquil beauty of the Norfolk Broads. By following these guidelines and staying vigilant on the water, you can ensure a memorable and secure boating experience for you and your crew. Happy sailing!
